10 reviews for King Lear

  1. Poonam Saijari

Absolutely brilliant! The themes of family, power, and madness are timeless. The Pelican notes helped unravel some of the complexities.

  2. Siddharth Goyal

Orgel’s notes are invaluable, making this edition a must-have for students. The conflated text is interesting, though occasionally confusing. A solid edition.

  3. Shrey Kumar Singh

Shakespeare at his finest, but it’s a heavy, depressing story. Prepare yourself for a bleak journey. The Pelican edition is well-edited and presented.

  4. Aditi Tripathi

I struggled with the language, even with the notes. The story itself is powerful, but it took a lot of effort to get through. Not my favorite Shakespeare play.

  5. Meena Choudhary

Excellent edition of King Lear. The conflated text provides a comprehensive view. Very insightful and helpful notes section. I would recommend.

  6. Shirin Sachdeva

A well-edited version of a masterpiece. It’s a tough play, emotionally draining, but ultimately rewarding. Be ready for a very sad ending!

  7. Sonamsi

Good for academic study, but not an easy read for pleasure. The language is very challenging. The background information was appreciated though.

  8. Jinendra

A classic for a reason! Lear’s descent is powerfully portrayed. However, some of the language felt a bit dense for a casual reader. Overall, a worthwhile but challenging read.

  9. Shreyash Dadhich

A profoundly moving tragedy. The Pelican edition offers excellent background and context. Highly recommended for anyone interested in Shakespeare.

  10. Mohd Fahad Khan

This edition made the play accessible, but I still found it hard to connect with the characters. Lear’s madness is disturbing, but not always engaging.
