Description
The Secret Garden follows the journey of Mary Lennox, a young orphan who is sent to live with her uncle in Yorkshire, England. Upon arrival, Mary discovers a hidden, locked garden on her uncle’s estate that has been abandoned for ten years. With the help of her new friends Dickon and Colin, Mary begins the secret work of restoring the garden to its former splendor.
As the three children labor to bring the garden back to life, they experience remarkable changes within themselves. Mary transforms from a spoiled, disagreeable child into a caring and thoughtful young girl. Colin, who had been confined indoors due to his father’s overprotective nature, gains strength and confidence. Dickon, with his natural affinity for plants and animals, becomes the emotional center of their group.
Through themes of growth, friendship, and the healing power of nature, Burnett creates an enduring story about redemption and personal development that continues to resonate with readers across generations.
